Urban Innovation in Practice: Smart Benches Enhance Public Spaces
At Barkarby Science, we work to make innovation real — by providing a platform for companies to test sustainable solutions in an urban environment.
Right now, we’re proud to host Finnish startup Cube Plus, who have installed their smart energy bench at Safir Square in Barkarbystaden — a new city district in Järfälla, Stockholm.
🔋 The bench runs on renewable energy via solar panels, offering:
– Smart lighting
– Wireless and USB charging
– Connectivity options (Wi-Fi)
– Optional features like chess tables and advertising displays
This is part of a year-long pilot, enabled through our collaboration with Malta Accelerate and Alex Silvestri, and made possible thanks to support from Järfälla kommun (municipality), who provided the public space.
By testing in a real urban setting, Cube Plus gains valuable insights — and we take one more step toward building The Sustainable and Attractive City.
